Since the late 1980's, doll making was my passion so I gave little thought to the words of a market lady in Ibadan, Nigeria about ten years ago when she held my hand and told me that I would create art with Ase (life-force).

In 2004 her prediction caught up with me in the creation of this unique, off canvas art form known as US or Universal Spirits. Presently, Universal Spirits consists of Sea Things and Light Flights. They are both one-of-a-kind creations.

The inspiration to create these majestic visuals flows from two sources. The first is from the Yoruba Goddess Osun, the powerful life force of the river whose intention is to reflect beauty, health, sensuality, prosperity and protection. The second being Genesis 1:20-21 where the first creatures that came into being were sea creatures and birds. The birth process of these fabric sculptures involves a concert of intuition, various fabrics, acrylic paint, faux foliage, meditation, gemstones, feathers and the sparks of fascination reflected from human eyes when introduced to this beautiful art form.

The transition from doll making to the creation of Universal Spirits is a wonderful testament to the flow and omnipresence of art. On this journey, I've appreciated the honor of being a respected wife, mom, grandmother, friend, life and spiritual advisor, Reiki practitioner and Herbalist. My character earned me two Chieftaincy titles in Nigeria, West Africa. I believe that bringing these exclusive nature nymphs into being is part of my destiny.
